This is one of my “non-Greek” projects. I cannot document acid etching to the Greeks (at this time). There is some evidence that they used vinegar as a weak acid to dissolve lead to create pigments, but as of this moment, I have no evidence of the Greeks using acid to etch metal. That said, this was my first time working with metal, so when I was given the opportunity to make something for someone in my household and family, I jumped at it.
